Aldi Süd solar power

Over the last few years Aldi Süd, the German discounter, has installed solar photo-voltaic collectors on the roofs of one thousand of its German stores and logistic centres. The electricity collected is mainly used to power the stores, depots and offices. A little however is used at fifty stores in South and West Germany to power charging stations for cars and e-bikes, so while cyclists and motorists are visiting the store they can top their batteries free of charge. Not a bad idea and it would be good if other stores and shopping centres could do the same.

Aldi UK are selling mountain biking gear on 12 April. Items include amongst others:

• Male and female waterproof jackets. The jacket seems to be a bit short on pockets or maybe the description is short on detail.
• Male and female base layers
• Male and female jerseys
• Garmin Edge 200 cycle computer for £69.99!
• A good looking repair stand for £24.99.

Aldi to sell special offer cycling gear just before le Tour hits Yorkshire

According to the editor of "Cycle" the CTC bimonthly magazine, Aldi UK is having a sale of cycling gear on 29 June. British cyclists should get ready to to get queueing.

Amazing the title is spelled correctly.
We have finally delivered almost all of the AtoB Guide about putting your bike on a train in Europe, well actually Europe without the UK, fourteen countries in all. We still need to look at eastern Europe, but it's summer and we can go cycling.
This is a kind of Twitter blog, short and sweet. Our wine merchants and grocers to the carriage trade, ALDI Süd are offering bikes next week: 28" trekking bikes for 229€. We are ourselves will not buy Aldi bikes, not because they are not well equipped and cheap. ALDI has found the secret of offering good quality, low priced items. However many German bike shops will not repair them. However for a month's trip these would be cheaper than flying them in from the USA or hiring, even if you left them at the airport when you departed these shores. Problem is they are only on sale next week.
