Cycle Touring in Northern Germany

Cycle Touring in Northern Germany describes a loop through Schleswig and Holstein. We start in Hamburg and follow the dykes downstream along the Elbe to Brunsbüttel, where we pick up the Kiel Canal Cycle Route. We follow this extremely well signposted route to Kiel. In Kiel we take the Baltic Coast Cycle Route round the island of Fehmarn to Lübeck. We then return to the River Elbe along the Old Salt Road and cross it to reach the ancient salt town of Lüneburg. The route is laid out to take advantage of the prevailing westerly winds. In addition this corner of Northern Germany offers the longest sunny days in the country. The book is a new approach for us. We also suggest where you can eat reasonably in a restaurant where heads of state have dined, visit a banana museum and watch seals being fed. Rather than overloading the book with directions when they are not needed, we have only given very explicit directions for the stretches where the signposting is insufficient.
The book includes information on bike shops and bike hire, back up public transport, cyclist friendly accommodation, food and drink, travel to the starting point, how to cope with emergencies, the basic rules of the road, equipment and packing, recommended maps and a route description with sketch maps.
A5 paperback format with full colour photographs and sketch maps. 62 pp.
